Career Path:
When you think about your career path as a Filipina woman, what motivates/influences you to invest in your chosen career?

FEMtors and Network of Advisors
To what degree have you nurtured and maintained a network of individuals (or web of relationships?) who support your career aspirations and provide advice and counsel (personal advisory board)?
What impact has this network had on your career?
What impact have FEMtors and mentors had on your career?

Leadership Qualities:
It is impossible to pick up a paper or hear a news broadcast without reading or hearing about a leader whose leadership is being publicly scrutinized, often with a spin on the story. What are the leadership characteristics or personal qualities allow a leader to manage this “fishbowl” aspect of leadership?

Life and Career Balance
We know that you have an incredibly busy schedule and many competing demands both professionally and personally. How have you stayed healthy (physically and mentally) and maintained a level of resilience (e.g., in times of crisis and change like the global pandemic)?

Advice to young women on how to navigate their career
When you think about women who may want to consider a career in your industry today, what is the ONE thing they must be mindful of to be successful?
What advice would you give to your younger self?

Moving Women From Success to Significance
How would you describe “moving from success to significance” in your own career?

Success or Failure?
Was there a point in your career where you believed you had been particularly unsuccessful (failed) on a project or initiative, and if so, what did you do to overcome that moment, professionally and personally?

Welcome to Sydney!
This vibrant city is known for its yacht-studded harbour, superb beaches, and the iconic Opera House with its towering sail structure with glittering white shell-shaped roofs that seem to echo the sails of the many yachts in the harbour. Once a British colony of exiled convicts, Sydney has grown into Australia's most diverse and cosmopolitan city with an exciting food, arts, and entertainment scene.

Other attractions include the Sydney Mardi Gras, Royal Botanical Gardens, Luna Park, the beaches, and Sydney Tower. The Sydney New Year's Eve fireworks attract more than 1.5 million visitors to Sydney Harbour annually.

Modern Sydney is home to one of the world's most culturally diverse populations. There is a strong presence of East Asian and South Asian diasporas, contributing to Sydney's growing reputation for showcasing Asian contemporary art.

10 Best Foods to Eat in Sydney
  • Barramundi.
  • Sydney rock oyster.
  • Australian prawns.
  • Avocado on toast.
  • Bacon and egg roll.
  • Lamington cake.
  • Potato cake.
  • Yellowfin tuna.
Interesting Facts About Sydney
  • The nickname of Sydney is Sin City.
  • Sin City was the name given in the 20th century because of the crime rate and corruption.
  • Sydney is 610 miles across, which is more than double New York's 301 square miles.
  • George Street in Sydney is the oldest street in Australia.
Music
Australia has a long tradition of country music and has developed a style quite distinct from its US counterpart. The early roots of Australian country music are related to traditional folk music traditions of Ireland, England, Scotland, and many diverse nations. "Botany Bay" from the late 19th century is one example.

Waltzing Matilda, often regarded as Australia's unofficial national anthem, is a quintessential Australian folk song influenced by Celtic folk ballads.

The cello was named Australia's favourite instrument in the 2023 Classic 100, held by ABC Classic and ABC Jazz.
In the second-most popular countdown in 22 years, audiences were asked to vote for their favourite instrument across all cultures and musical traditions. The cello was a unanimous favourite, no matter voters' gender or where in Australia they live.

Be ready to leave your heart in Sydney!

SUMMIT Day 2: Welcome Remarks: Joining the World Conversation on AI & Tech.
Monday October 28, 2024 9:15am - 9:30am AEDT

Joining the World Conversation of AI & Tech

We stand at the threshold of a new era, one where artificial intelligence is reshaping our world in ways both profound and subtle.

As we gather here today, we're not just witnesses to this revolution—we are its architects, its critics, and its beneficiaries. The promise of AI stretches across every sector of our global society, from healthcare to education, from business to environmental conservation. Yet, with this promise comes a responsibility to ensure that the future we're building is one of inclusivity, equity, and shared prosperity.

Today, we'll delve into the multifaceted impact of AI, with a particular focus on its implications for women worldwide and underrepresented communities, especially Filipina women. We'll explore how AI is transforming the global workplace, creating new opportunities while also presenting unique challenges. Our discussion will shed light on the role of next-generation leaders in shaping an AI-driven future that reflects our diverse world.

In an age where information—and misinformation—spreads at the speed of light, we'll also address the critical distinction between AI fact and fiction. By separating reality from hype, we aim to empower you with the knowledge to navigate this rapidly evolving landscape.

From the early dreams of machine intelligence in the 1950s to today's sophisticated algorithms that power our daily lives, AI has come a long way. But the most exciting chapters of this story are yet to be written. And you—the innovators, the leaders, the changemakers in this room—will play a crucial role in authoring them.

As we embark on this discussion, let's remember that the true power of AI lies not just in its ability to process data or automate tasks, but in its potential to amplify human ingenuity, creativity, and compassion. Together, we can ensure that the AI revolution uplifts all of humanity, bridging divides and opening doors of opportunity for everyone, regardless of gender, background, or nationality.

So, let us begin this exploration with open minds and forward-thinking spirits. The future is not something that happens to us—it's something we create together. And today, we take another step toward shaping that future.

The artificial intelligence revolution is going to change EVERYTHING FOR EVERYONE — how we work, how we learn, how we teach, how we trade, how we invent, how we collaborate, how we fight wars, how we commit crimes and how we fight crimes.

In our globalized world, Filipina women aren't just defined by their roots but by the multitude of roles, experiences, and challenges they navigate daily.

The unique position of Filipina women leaders at the intersection of multiple identities and experiences is a call to recognize and harness our power, ensuring our leadership is infused with empathy, resilience, and a deep understanding of diverse narratives.

The 2024 Awardees will present their innovative projects to demonstrate how they will "pay forward" and help FWN build next-generation projects to benefit the Filipina women's community where the awardees live, thrive, and raise their families. The proposed project presentation is an opportunity to engage and invite awardees of previous years attending the Filipina Summit to collaborate and support awardee projects.

The FWN BOD Member and Vice President Global Projects will provide feedback and potential for VC and Angel Investing Funding.

"Break the Mold" (A Rap for DISRUPT 5.0)

Listen up, y'all, it's time to get woke
To the stories of women who've weathered each stroke
Filipina leaders, they're changing the game
Breaking barriers daily, they're rising to fame

(Chorus)
DISRUPT 5.0, yeah, that's the name
Intersectionality is their claim to fame
Race, class, and gender, they've faced it all
But these women refuse to hit the wall

Verse 1:
First-gen, second-gen, they came to succeed
Faced with stereotypes, but they paid no heed
In the corporate world, they're making their mark
Lighting up boardrooms that once were dark
They've got tales to tell, experiences to share
Of struggles and triumphs, of learning to dare
From poverty's grip to the executive suite
These women show strength that can't be beat

(Chorus)
DISRUPT 5.0, yeah, that's the name
Intersectionality is their claim to fame
Race, class, and gender, they've faced it all
But these women refuse to hit the wall

Verse 2:
To all the young hustlers, take note of this book
It's time to change how the world's gonna look
Diversity ain't just a box to check
It's about perspectives, so show some respect
For the DEI pros and the execs in suits
It's time to dig deep and examine your roots
These Filipina stories will open your eyes
To talent and wisdom you might otherwise miss

(Chorus)
DISRUPT 5.0, yeah, that's the name
Intersectionality is their claim to fame
Race, class, and gender, they've faced it all
But these women refuse to hit the wall

Outro:
So let's amplify voices, tear down the old ways
Create workplaces where everyone slays
DISRUPT 5.0 is the blueprint, you see
For a future where all can be truly free

=====
This rap-style poem aims to capture the essence of the book in a more youthful, energetic format. It uses contemporary slang and a rhythmic structure to appeal to a younger audience while still conveying the key messages of the book:
  1. It highlights the intersectional challenges faced by Filipina women leaders.
  2. It emphasizes their journey from immigrant backgrounds to leadership positions.
  3. It underscores the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
  4. It calls attention to the book as a tool for change and understanding.
  5. It encourages young people to take note and be part of the change.

The chorus reinforces the book's title and main theme, while the verses delve into specific aspects of the Filipina leaders' experiences and the book's significance for different audiences.

The Future is AI: Potential, Flaws, Efficiency, Limitations

AI, a buzzword that's taking the business world by storm, has become a frequent subject of conversation due to its potential, flaws, efficiency, and limitations. New stories emerge that either applaud its breakthroughs or bemoan its shortcomings each week. In this session, we aim to navigate crucial concepts in AI's role in data acquisition, processing, and ownership and its application in business settings without falling into strategic and legal pitfalls that could adversely affect your operations.

As AI's influence on the internet continues to surge, we will delve into the dynamic intersection of AI-derived and human-generated data, particularly its influence on the global perception of Filipina identity. This session will equip you with tangible insights for effectively utilizing AI tools while safeguarding your business. Moreover, you'll gain an understanding of your capability to shape perceptions of Filipinas around the world.

SUMMIT Day 3 (3) Pinay Talks: Ellen Samson: AI & Tech Tools: productivity, creativity, reskilling, and emotional intelligence
Tuesday October 29, 2024 2:10pm - 2:20pm AEDT
Pinay Talks: Extraordinary Voices: Using Tech to Solve Global Crises

AI & Tech Tools: productivity, creativity, reskilling, and emotional intelligence

In this 8-minute talk, I will explore how AI and technology are reshaping careers and leadership
opportunities for Filipina women, focusing on how tools like GPTs, such as those I created—Dr. Martin, Dr.
Carey, and Manny—enhance productivity and streamline complex tasks. I will also highlight the vital role of
Executive Virtual Assistants (EVAs), show how they complement AI to handle tasks requiring human
insight, creativity, and emotional intelligence.

The talk emphasizes the importance of reskilling and staying organized through tech tools like Asana, Calendly, Co-Pilot, and ChatGPT, while inspiring Filipina women to embrace these innovations for leadership and entrepreneurship. With a lighthearted tone, memorable quotes, and actionable takeaways, this presentation encourages women to harness both AI and human support to thrive in a fast-paced world.

RECAP: Summit Learning Sessions
Future Thinking IMPACT

"A desk is a dangerous place from which to view the world."--John LeCarre
  • The Summit Sessions aim to offer a rich array of experiences, with the presentations, meetings with Prague professionals and business owners, elected and appointed officials, to spark ideas and conversations of the post-COVID business / workplace changes and the new (or transformed) business models emerging.

How are we doing? We will explore the question -
Has the workplace changed, or is it our understanding that we have changed? -- Chris Riley, Wieden & Kennedy

Who are the new customers, producers, and purveyors of the future which will set the stage for subsequent conversations designed to deepen our understanding of the causes, manifestations, and implications of changing customer relationships, post-COVID.

  1. Sit with your Award Groups - 8 to a table. Name your group.
  2. Each group will explore one of the following discussion topics during the Learning Journey and report their findings.
  3. Select a Facilitator, Recorder and Timer for your group.
    • How has been your Kumare relationship so far. Was it helpful? What would deepen your friendships?
    • Summit Sessions: Learnings? One big audacious idea
    • What Future Thinking captures your imagination?
    • Discuss the future of brands, value webs, global youth, the particularity of desire, the digital divide, and are companies getting it?
    • We are looking for your- business observations and long-range implications.
  4. Report Back to the big group. Post on the ACTION Wall your individual reflections.
The Action Wall will showcase photos, quotes, and other artifacts gathered during the day’s learning journeys. Participants will share their personal observations.

SUMMIT Day 4: (OFF-SITE) Learning Journey for DISRUPT 5.0 Book REVEAL GROUP PHOTO then Board the Shuttle
Wednesday October 30, 2024 8:30am - 4:00pm AEDT
Learning Journey:
"A desk is a dangerous place to view the world."
-- John le Carré

John le Carré is like the James Bond of writing, but way more sophisticated and morally grey. His spy novels are off the charts, and they even made some killer movies and shows out of them. So, in the world of IT, the big problem is that tech people and business folks aren't on the same page. They're not facing the real challenges together and figuring out how to use tech to solve 'em. It's like what Steven Spielberg said back in '95 when he got that AFI award - making something truly great means having a deep personal connection or experience with it. That's what helps create awesome stuff like killer products, innovative software, slick designs, and solving tricky business and customer problems.

Remember that scene in the movie where the manager says, "I'm gonna go check out this situation for myself?" Yeah, that's the move. Instead of just conference calls from the US, he jets off to Japan to get the lowdown in person. He sits down with the Japanese crew, gets to know them, and really digs into how things work over there. It's all about making those real connections and getting that insider info to improve things.
